In a lecture for MAPS, Paul Stamets briefly describes making Blue Juice (around the 20 minute mark), using a cold extraction method in the refrigerator. I have tried this Stamet’s Blue Juice Tek Recipe and have been underwhelmed with this method (and so have many others!) I’ll describe the method that was taught to me, so that you can try it too. You must use fresh mushrooms in this tek – dried mushrooms will not work.

Note: This tek method is known to be a less effective method to extract psilocybin. It works, but not as well or as predictably as other similar methods.

Stamet's Blue Juice Tek Recipe

Ingredients for this Stamet’s Blue Juice Tek Recipe:

  • 8 ounces FRESH mushrooms
  • 8 ounces ice (about 1 cup)
  • Quart sized mason jar with lid

How to Make this Stamet’s Blue Juice Tek Recipe

  1. Roughly chop or tear up your fresh mushrooms and transfer them into a glass mason jar. Fill the jar with ice, placing the ice on top of the mushrooms. Do not mix. Cover and set the jar in the coldest part of your refrigerator.
  2. Check back in 2 days. The ice should have melted, submerging the mushrooms in cold water. The water should be blue! Transfer the water (Blue Juice) out in a separate bottle to store.
  3. Don’t discard the mushrooms just yet! Refill mason jar with ice and repeat (you can re-use the mushrooms once more.)

FAQs

What does Blue Juice taste like?

I’ll admit that this is the best tasting mushroom extraction that I’ve ever tried. The Blue Juice is very mild tasting and refreshing.

What can I do with Blue Juice?

Drink it! Add it to cocktails or mocktails. Pour the Blue Juice into ice cube trays to make Blue Ice.

What about dosage?

In my personal experience, Blue Juice is very mild, and while it’s pretty enjoyable to drink, I have not had any luck with effectiveness. Other friends who have tried it have sworn by it! It’s such an easy tek that it’s worth a try if you have access to fresh mushrooms.

Will this work with dried mushrooms?

Nope.
